Competitive Event Guidelines

To be able to qualify for the ability to compete in any of FBLA-PBL events, members must meet the regulations placed by the State and National Chapters:

  1. Participants must meet the specifications set forth in the 2008-2009 OFFICIAL HANDBOOK (available on website: www.floridafbla-pbl.com). Please read the guidelines carefully.
  2. Chapters may enter only one contestant or team (as specified) in: Business Decision Making, Business Ethics, Client Service, Emerging Business Issues, Financial Services, Future Business Executive, Future Business Teacher, Help Desk, Hospitality Management, Human Resource Management, Impromptu Speaking, Job Interview, Management Analysis and Decision Making, Marketing Analysis and Decision Making, Network Design, Parliamentary Procedure, Public Speaking, and Sales Presentation.
  3. Contestants may enter up to three different events in the following combinations:
    • Three objective tests OR
    • Two objective tests and one performance OR
    • Two objective tests and one skill OR
    • One objective and two skill OR
    • One objective test, one performance, and one skill
    Some adjustment to this provision may be required on the part of the contestant when two events operate concurrently. Students may enter the Christopher Heider, Rob Kelleher, or Who's Who event in addition to their three other events.
  4. Participants may not have entered or have been eligible to enter the same event at a previous NLC. (Exceptions: Business Decision Making, Business Ethics, Desktop, Emerging Business Issues, Management Analysis and Decision Making, Marketing Analysis and Decision Making, Network Design, and Parliamentary Procedure....See State and National Guidelines).
  5. Entry in an event is contingent upon pre-registration on the appropriate form in the SLC packet and receipt of the completed spreadsheet. The adviser's signature is required.
  6. A participant who fails to appear on time and in the proper business attire may be disqualified and unable to enter the testing area. This also applies to students in the sequestering room.
  7. All entries for Who's Who, Rob Kelleher, or Chris Heider Awards must be mailed to the state adviser. They must be mailed first class and postmarked by February 17, 2009.
  8. The letters and resumes for Job Interview, Future Business Executive, and Future Business Teacher, entries for Business Presentation, Desktop Application Programming, Digital Video, E-business, Internet Application Programming, Website Development and all reports for Community Service, Free Enterprise Project, Local Chapter Annual Business Report, and Small Business Management Plan, must be mailed first class and postmarked by February 17, 2009.
  9. Members may take the written Parliamentary Procedure exam to be considered for State Parliamentarian even if their school does not have a team.
